  1. Kia Ora Andrew,

It's great to see that you watched the Charlie Chaplin video and that you enjoyed it. It also really makes me laugh! I see in your post that you mention the fact that it also sends you a message. I'd love to know more about this. What kind of message did you get from watching Gold Rush?

I hope that you will have time to write back and tell us about your experience watching Gold Rush and share with us the messages that you discovered in this short video clip. It's pretty amazing to think that movies used to be silent, isn't it? I can't imagine going to a movie now and not hearing any sound at all...

Keep up the great work, Andrew! Hope to see you online again soon.

    All the best,
    Rachel :)

    1. thanks for the great comment!
I think the message or the idea to the story is making tragedy, hungriness, loneliness and sadness into comedy.

    2. Kia Ora AJ and happy new year. It's hard to believe that it's 2018 already!

I agree with you that Gold Rush does evoke feelings of tragedy, loneliness, sadness and, likely, hunger into a comedy. These days I think that a movie like this would be called a 'dramedy' (a combination of a drama and a comedy).

According to an online ranking site that I just found on the internet, dramedys are pretty common. Some of the most popular dramedys of all time are: Cheers, Scrubs, House, Orange is the New Black, Suits and Doctor Who. Have you heard of any of these dramedys by any chance?

Wishing you and your family a drama-free 2018!

All the best for a great year,
      Rachel :)
